too sheer

I was super excited when this was announced because I love crinkle chiffon. Before I wore modal I wore (and still wear) crinkle chiffon especially georgetta crepe chiffon. However, when I received my order, in two dark colors (navy blue and a dark chocolate brown) it was WAY too sheer. I love vela as a company but to me this was not hijab. I am not perfect with hijab nor am I one to judge how others wear it, but it was so sheer I could see my entire neck and ears. I always wear an underpiece, and always understand a bit of sheerness, especially when casted under certain lights, but this one was too much. the only way I would feel comfortable is if I wore a complete neck and head covering underneath, which I usually don't wear. If i double layered the hijab over my head it might cover some more of it, but I hoped to buy this so I can wear it in the same style as a modal. I don't think I can do that with this.

The colors are beautiful and the fabric is really soft and lightweight. I just wish they could make it less sheer. Vela, I love everything that this company stands for but this is where I have some criticism. To me this is not hijab, no matter how much I want it to be. I honestly don't think I would ever feel comfortable wearing this, though if that changes and I find a way to dress modestly in a practical fashion with this hijab, I will let you know. But for now I can't see that happening without a dozen other factors to actually cover myself, and at that point the scarf isn't doing the work. I will stick with the other fabrics from vela instead for now.
