Effortless Winter Hijab Styling That Actually Works Day-to-Day

Effortless Winter Hijab Styling That Actually Works Day-to-Day

Salaam VELA fam! Now that we have officially transitioned to winter, most of us have made some major modifications to our wardrobes. Flowy maxi skirts have been replaced with sweaters, but in addition to clothing, hijabis have another area of concern- specifically when it comes to hijab styling. Whether its deciding on the right fabric- jersey or chiffon, or choosing how to wrap your hijab in the cold weather, so that you aren’t compromising your immune health for fashion. This blog post will focus on a few hijab styles and tips to survive the winter!

Restyling Modals

While it may seem hard to accept, us fellow hijabis should consider switching up our hijab styles especially with the lightweight modal fabric. One of the best fabrics for this summer and spring is modal, primarily for its versatile design, soft texture, and breathable fibers. It is still possible to wear modal hijabs in the winter, but it is essential to consider other wrapping styles.

1. Classic Wrap

The "Classic Wrap" is a style that most of us are already familiar with because it is a style that we use for almost all fabrics- including chiffon and jersey. To create this style, you place the hijab over your head, feel free to use a straightener if desired, to iron out any wrinkles. The second step is to have a long side and a short side of the fabric. You then take the longer side and wrap it over the short side, placing it above your head. Now you have the short side remaining flat at the bottom and the longer side is draped over your head and you can choose to leave it as is or secure it with a pin/magnet.

I know most of us prefer not using pins and/or even magnets for our hijabs, especially in the summer for our loose/flowy styles. However, pins and magnets are great to use especially in the unpredictable cold weather (anyone ever experienced the wind being "islamophobic?").

For this style you would lay your hijab flat on your head and have both sides of your hijab laying straight, in equal length. Then take a magnet or a pin and secure the hijab at the back of your head, instead of the front. Next, take one of the sides of the hijab and bring it to the front, while the other side remains at the back with the magnet/pin. Lastly, you can choose to simply drape the portion of the hijab over your shoulder or bring it to the top to drape over your head.

Invest in Velaclavas

Yes, you read that correctly. Balaclavas are in right now for winter fashion and luckily VELA has designed its own Velaclavas! The best feature about these scarves is that they are made from 100% cotton, guaranteed to provide you warmth and comfort all day. These Velaclavas offer versatile styling options and are double sided, so you can wear them any way you want! You can wear an undercap with neck coverage and simply layer the Velaclava on top to create a polished and chic look.

Modals may have been the craze for the warmer and sunny weather, but jerseys have been popular especially in the winter! They are a bit thicker than modals and have elasticity to easily drape and even layer! VELA’s jersey hijabs are non-slip, wrinkle-resistant, and are available in a plethora of colors. Jersey hijabs might not be as lightweight as modal fabrics, but there are still quite a few styles that hijabis can wear.

For the girlies that are in a rush:

Similar to the "Classic Wrap" style, after having a short and long side, you can throw the short side to the back, or tuck it in your top at the front, to provide an extra layer to stay warm. Then take the longer side and as you are draping it over your head, instead of using a magnet or pin, you can simply tuck in a small part of the fabric under your chin, so that the style remains secured.

For the girlies that want a flowy style:

This style doesn’t require any pins or magnets, but you do need to wear an undercap. Simply take your jersey hijab and place it over your head and have equal lengths on either side. You are going to take one side and loosely drape it over your shoulder on the opposite side and repeat with the other. Gently move the fabric around at the top to create a loose flowy look around your face, and adjust the hijab portions over your shoulder if needed.
