Come join the 8th year anniversary of the National Muslim Women's Summit hosted by Malikah in collaboration with VELA. The summit serves as one of the few nation-wide opportunities for social justice minded muslim women to connect and discuss the current status of Muslim women in the U.S. and the collective vision for the future. The focus is to build safety and a collective power for Muslim women in NYC and beyond.
We live in an ongoing climate of Islamophobia, xenophobia, racism, sexism, and other various forms of hate making Muslim women more vulnerable than ever. At the summit, there will be more tools than ever before to organize, strategize, and build power for Muslim communities. Malikah will be training all participants at the summit in trauma informed facilitations and will provide mental health facilitation guides so that participants can bring Malikah’s mental health framework to their community. Additionally, all participants will join a community of women dedicated to building safety and power for their communities.
The headliner this year is Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib alongside the other speakers: Zakiyah Ansari, Rana Abdelhamid, Shahana Hanif, Megan Rice, VELA co-founder Tasneem Atik, and more!
Rashida Tlaib is a mother that aims to provide justice for all. She is a Detroit native of Palestinian heritage, a leader, a mother, daughter, friend, and community advocate. As a first generation child born to immigrant parents, she built a career as a public interest attorney and challenged the abuses within corporations to protect our civil rights. Hence, Rashida made history in 2008 by becoming the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the Michigan Legislature, and then again in 2019, becoming one of the two first Muslim women in Congress.
