Salaam VELA fam! Today’s blog will be a spotlight - style feature featuring VELA girlies! VELA was not just founded to create stunning hijabs, but to foster a community of women supporting each other. The purpose of today’s blog is to showcase VELA hijabs, some hijab hacks, as well as fan favorite hijabs from our VELA girlies!
Sarah Siddiqui
Salaam everyone! My name is Sarah and I am proud to be a VELA-holic! Ever since I purchased my first hijab from VELA which was the VELA Linen Deco modal print, I have been in love with all of the prints that I purchased from VELA.
To me VELA means confidence in modesty and this can be seen through the diverse collections and even restocks that VELA has released. All of VELA’s prints are unique and showcase an innovative style for modesty as it encourages women both who wear the hijab and those that aren’t at the moment, that modesty is beautiful and doesn’t have to be boring!
One of my favorite VELA hijabs is the VELA Navy Marble. This was my first marble printed hijab and honestly I am so glad I purchased this hijab when it was released because it definitely is worth the hype! It is so versatile and can elevate any fit.
My favorite hijab hack is that if you don’t want to use hijab pins or magnets, but also have the signature flowy VELA look, use fashion tape to secure your undercap to your hijab so that it stays in place, even during windy days!
Sidrah Siddiqui
Salaam Everyone! My name is Sidrah and I have always been a jersey girl but since purchasing from VELA, thanks to my sister, I have a newfound love for modal hijabs!
To me VELA means encouraging women to explore their fashion style. VELA has recently released their signature apparel in addition to hijabs and abayas, and my favorite set is the pleated cardigan and pants set in rust. Just as much as I loved the versatility and ease of wrapping with jersey hijabs, VELA’s soft modals have motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with different styles!
My favorite VELA hijab is the Enchanted Feathers! I remember when my sister purchased this hijab for me, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to wear it because it felt too bold. But after wearing it I felt like I enjoyed the print and it really complimented my outfits, and now it’s one of my go-to hijabs!
My favorite hijab hack for showing off your jewelry stack is by throwing one of your hijab pieces to the side or letting the back of your hijab flow freely, and secure it with a magnet for extra coverage!
Maryam Ezz
Salaam, my name is Maryam!
I first came across VELA through social media and was drawn to how lightweight and wearable the scarves are especially in the summer. The unique color palettes and designs really stood out to me. It’s the perfect balance between modesty and style and that’s what keeps me coming back :)
To me, VELA represents intentional beauty and confidence. It’s more than just a scarf, it’s about feeling aligned with who you are while still expressing your personal style.
My favorite VELA has to be the modal in Ombre Olive. The color is so unique and the fabric is lightweight and easy to style. I love how effortlessly it pairs with different colors and works with so many outfits.
A hijab hack I love is using accessories like earrings to help frame my hijab. I style it so there’s a subtle peek, which adds structure and elevates the overall look. I also sometimes use a round hoop to loop both sides of my hijab together and secure it to one side of my shoulder. It creates a really clean drape without needing pins.
Anum Sameer
Salaam, my name is Anum! I first purchased from VELA back in 2022 and am proud to be a returning customer.
VELA, to me, feels like a quiet kind of confidence—where my hijab becomes a space to express my individuality, reflect my emotions, and feel effortlessly fashionable in my own way.
My fave VELA is the Leopard or the Sage Kuffiyeh. I just love both of those prints and how unique they are and ever since VELA released these prints I feel like they have been popular ever since!
One hijab hack that I have is that I like fashion taping one end of my hijab to my shirt so that it stays where I want it to, and usually stays put for the entire day.
Naveen Moinuddin
Salaam, my name is Naveen!
VELA Scarves have been part of my life for years. I run a mini pancake cart in Kansas City with my husband, and for every event I intentionally choose a VELA scarf that matches the theme. It’s become a small but meaningful part of how I show up. I also work as an ultrasound tech, and even on long shifts, matching my hijab to my scrubs helps me feel put together and grounded for the day. My favorite VELA is the Denim Ripple and I wear it pretty often!
One hijab hack that I have is that sometimes I’ll wet my hand with a bit of water and pat down my hijab to get rid of any wrinkles, especially when I’m in a hurry!
What VELA has built feels bigger than just a product. It’s created a space where modesty meets self expression and confidence. Being a “VELA girl” doesn’t feel like a trend to me, it feels like being part of something that truly reflects who we are.
For me, hijab has never been about hiding. It’s about showing up fully in a way that feels thoughtful and beautiful. VELA has made that feel natural. The way each scarf uniquely combines color and design makes it easy to feel like the best version of myself without compromise.
This past Ramadan I designed a set of illustrated characters inspired by different VELA styles. Each one reflects a different personality and expression through hijab. It was my way of translating what VELA represents into something playful and tangible, and I’ve attached a few of those designs here as well.
