How To Experiment With Hijabs and Abayas

If there is one thing I’m eternally (and externally) grateful about being a Muslim woman is that the commandment given to cover our bodies and embrace the idea of modesty is a branch of faith. This might sound surprising, (especially in society that often suggests showing more skin leads to empowerment), but, I assure you as Muslim women, we are honored with this privilege.

However, being covered doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable. Truth is, Islam encourages women to embrace their beauty. As Jabir RA reported, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Indeed, Allah is beautiful and loves beauty.” Isn’t that statement itself beautiful

Being beautiful is easy. With abayas, hijabs, and loose-fitting clothing, you can easily create stunning outfits. It’s all about choosing the right colors and mixing and matching your outfits. Here are some tips on how to style your hijabs and abayas.

Play with colors

Don’t be afraid to play with colors! You can match your hijab with your abaya for a unified style or pick a contrasting color to stand out. If you like warm colors, try pairing them with cooler shades, and the other way around works too!

Don’t forget to add some patterns. If your abaya is plain, a patterned hijab can add interest. If your abaya has designs, choose a solid hijab to create balance. It’s all about mixing and matching!

Pick comfortable fabrics

Fabrics are just as important as colors. To feel beautiful, comfort is key. In warmer weather, choose an abaya made from breathable, lightweight fabric that still offers coverage. Many lightweight abayas are designed for a casual vibe, perfect for work, errands, or leisurely strolls around town.

If you're in a cooler area or heading to a special event, don’t hold back! Try luxurious hijab materials like silk or satin and match them with a standout abaya. Check out VELA's abayas here.

Experiment with layers

Layered outfits are always a stylish choice, and abayas are no exception. Today, there are many fashionable open-front abayas available, many of which offer great customization options. You can easily pair them with jeans, long skirts, or even maxi dresses. This versatility makes it simple to coordinate your hijab color with your overall look.

Style your hijab

This is a sign to switch up your hijab style! With so many hijab tutorials and hacks available, go ahead and experiment with different styles. Finding the right style that fits your facial structure can totally change the way you look overall.

Accessorize!

Girl, you better get your accessories on. And I’m not talking about those flashy items that could attract male gazes, but simple yet elegant pieces like rings, necklaces and a watch. Nominal has plenty of minimalist jeweleries to elevate your everyday look. Also, don’t overlook the impact of hijab brooches and loops; they can really add that extra flair to your outfit.
