Hijab and Heat: How to Stay Cool and Covered All Summer

Hijab and Heat: How to Stay Cool and Covered All Summer

Salaam VELA fam! Some people enjoy summer because they are able to wear dresses, skirts, and other breathable fabrics, but others dread the warm weather because it can be a challenge to keep your body cool, while keeping your body covered, as outlined in our faith. Did you know that most women feel hesitant when it comes to wearing the hijab because they think they will feel too hot? Of course this is a misconception, and luckily for us hijabis, VELA offers a diverse selection of colorful modals and printed modals, which happen to be one of the most lightweight fabrics. This blog article will focus on a few tips on how to stay cool this summer!

  1. Wearing Breathable Undercaps

Like our skin, our hair also needs to be able to breathe. Some people opt out of wearing undercaps when they wrap their hijab. But others prefer wearing an undercap because it prevents their hair from becoming frizzy and becoming easily visible under their scarf, especially with lighter fabrics like modals. VELA has a variety of undercaps that are made from all natural and eco friendly fibers, which are great for maintaining hair quality. These undercaps help your hair breathe and reduce the amount of friction that you would typically experience when you place any type of hijab fabric on your head. VELA’s Feather undercap, Tube undercap, and the Satin lined undercap are staples for every hijabi!

  1. Invest in Modal Hijabs

If you haven’t already, now is the time to get on board with modal hijabs. While fabrics like jersey seem very convenient and easy to wrap, this material is pretty thick and can cause you to feel hotter especially during the summertime. Modal hijabs are breathable, easy to style, and some don’t even require pins or magnets to be secured because the fabric is lightweight. VELA recently launched their Novelty Collection which features retro designs like lace, fringe, and even ruffles, made from the signature modal fabric!

  1. Stay Hydrated

This seems to be the most obvious but we often forget to stay hydrated especially when we are busy with tasks at work, school, or even at home! We should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated and it’s a good idea to invest in facial mists if you haven’t already! If you’re on the go and need to cool down, facial mists are a great way to hydrate and even refresh your skin!
