How to Care for Your Hijabs So They Last Longer

How to Care for Your Hijabs So They Last Longer

Salaam VELA fam! The warm summers are perfect for flowy hijab styles, but they also can cause sweat and moisture to build up due to the heat. As hijabis, caring for your scarves is basically like caring for your hair. If you neglect cleaning or maintaining your hijabs, they won’t last as long and they can become pretty gross on your hair/skin. This blog article will focus on caring for your VELAS, so they can be long lasting!

  1. Avoid Heavy Pins/Jewelry On Fabric

This is one of the quickest ways to damage your VELAs because heavy pins, brooches, or even embellished jewelry can snag on the delicate fabric. Running threads, holes, and even small tears are enough to damage a VELA and are nearly impossible to mend.

  1. Hand Wash Instead of Machine Wash

We all know that machine washing our hijabs is a simple solution to clean fabrics. However, there are a few problems that arise due to machine washing. Faded colors, snagged threads, and rough texture are just some of the side effects of machine washing VELAs. To preserve the colors and textures of your scarves, handwashing is the best method.

  1. Avoid Heavy Oils/Fragrances

Using hair oils or even perfume oils can not only stain your scarf, but also affect the texture too. Sometimes these oils can cause discoloration or even a "ripple effect" which can extend past the areas where the oil has been applied, making it more difficult to remove.
