How to Keep Your Chiffon Scarves Looking Brand New
Soft, lightweight, delicate – chiffon scarves are highly favored among hijabis. However, when it comes to removing stains and ensuring longevity of the scarves’ quality, it can be a challenging task, especially when dealing with delicate fabrics.
At VELA, our chiffon scarves are crafted by merging authentic silk fabrics with chiffon, resulting in an exclusive silk-chiffon material. Hence, this unique blend requires special care and attention to maintain its pristine condition.
But fret not. If you're looking for easy steps to help you care for your VELA silk chiffon scarves without compromising their quality, we got you covered!
-
Hand washing
To ensure the longevity of your silk chiffon scarves, we recommend hand washing them instead of using a washing machine and dryer. The delicate hand-stitch embroidery on our scarves requires gentle care, and by hand washing, you have complete control over the washing process, minimizing any potential damage to the fabric.
How to do it?
Start by filling a large mixing basin halfway with lukewarm water. Add ½ cups of your preferred detergent and mix well. Then, gently massage the scarf against itself using back and forth strokes for 5 to 10 minutes. This is the quickest way to remove stains and odors from your scarves.
-
Dry cleaning (Warning: No washing machine use)
In case you come across stubborn dirt or stains on your scarves, which cannot be removed manually, we recommend using sending your hijab to get dry cleaned. Using the washing machine will ruin your silk chiffon especially if washed with rough fabrics such as wool, as this can affect their quality. We also suggest to pre-clean any significant stains or dirt using wipes or soap to facilitate the dry cleaning process.
-
Hang-dry
I stopped using the dryer after I found out that they actually reduce all of my scarves’ fabric quality. Now, I only hang-dry my hijabs or lay them on a flat surface. Even better, try to hang them outside in a shaded area. This method also helps in eliminating any unwanted odors.
-
Ironing
When ironing, adjust the temperature according to the fabric. Overheating your scarves can lead to a decrease in quality and distortion of their shape. We suggest steam irons as they are more effective and do not cause fabric burns.
-
Storing
Always separate your silk chiffon scarves (or any scarves and hijabs in this matter), from your other clothing. The buttons, zippers, and harsh materials of your other clothes can easily poke and ruin the delicate chiffon scarves. It’s better to fold them neatly and store them in a clean storage or hang them separately from your other clothes.
Some people even store their scarves according to their fabrics—chiffon, jersey, silk, etc—to ensure longevity of quality. If you choose to store them in a drawer or a storage box, be careful not to overfold them as this can cause creasing and breakage in the fabrics.
